“There is no downside, all upside to trying Eargo. It’s a part of my life now.”
– Howard W.
Howard W.’s Eargo Experience
Howard W. said aloha to better hearing with Eargo when his daughter, Taryn, gifted him a pair of our modern hearing aids when he and his family traveled to Maui for Lauren’s (his other daughter) wedding. We loved hearing about his story and we trust you will too.
Howard Says Aloha to Better Hearing in Hawaii
Fast forward to Howard’s family trip to the fiftieth state.
Taryn gave her dad Eargo under the guise of testing our modern hearing aids to learn whether they worked for his hearing loss, and to test his reaction to see whether they were able to help him hear more of life. Children always know what’s best for their parents, right?
Turns out, they just might: Howard stated that he “didn’t realize what he was missing” until he wore Eargo. He was “amazed by the dramatic improvement” in his quality of hearing – and life – along with the fact that he “didn’t feel like he had anything in his ear”, that’s our patented Flexi Fiber technology at work.
Howard was curious and quick to learn more, downloading our “helpful, clear” user guide to ensure his hearing aids were put to good use during the trip. Howard told us he wore his hearing aids during social situations throughout Lauren’s wedding weekend, like the rehearsal dinner and of course, to hear her exchange vows with her new husband during their outdoor ceremony, waves crashing only a few feet away in the distance.
When chatting with Howard, he expanded on Eargo’s ease of use, speaking to how well-designed our “high-tech” device is, as well as how easy it was to place in the canal and remove each evening to charge overnight. He utilized our Sound Profiles to enhance conversations during each event, double-tapping his ear to ensure he could hear and participate in the conversations. Howard was blown away when he didn’t miss a beat while seated at a rehearsal dinner table with fourteen family members and guests at a noisy restaurant in his Maui hotel.
Howard was amazed his newfound “bionic hearing” could help him hear guests at the other end of the table for the first time in several years. For the first time in a long time, Howard didn’t experience trouble hearing and (much to her relief), did not have to ask his wife to repeat conversations.
Returning Home with Enhanced Senses
Howard continues to wear his “extremely comfortable” Eargo hearing aids now that he’s home and refers to Eargo as a game-changer, keeping his device in his pocket and wearing his hearing aids when chatting with his wife and in social situations, especially those at restaurants.
Now that Eargo is helping Howard hear more of life, what does he have to say to clients considering our life-enhancing hearing health technology? Here are his thoughts:
“What you don’t realize is what you’re really missing from a quality of life standpoint, especially your ability to use all of your senses. I really did not appreciate what I was missing out on by not having a hearing device to amplify my ability to hear. You can actually hear what others are saying in a clear, natural-sounding way – these hearing aids are not artificial-sounding in any way. I can’t emphasize how well-designed it is: the device fits in my pocket, is easy to insert in the ear and easy to change amplification levels – no one notices when I tap my ear. I love how the device lets me know how much charge boost is left, and how easy it is to recharge my device.”
Taryn’s Side of the Story (or at least this is what she told us)
“I am totally confident my Dad would not have had the same experience or would not have walked away with the same memories from the weekend if he did not wear Eargo. It made the wedding for him.”
My Dad is a cool guy, and he’s truly a very young 68 year old. Over the years, it was apparent he was struggling to hear more in group settings, especially at restaurants. He would frequently ask us to repeat ourselves, and his body language expressed his frustration in his inability to completely engage in our conversations. I don’t think he would have ever purchased hearing aids for himself, because he doesn’t like to consider himself to be at the age where he needs them – but we could see he would benefit from using a device.
Dad’s an early adopter, the kind of guy who is first on the list or in line at the crack of dawn when a new gadget is released. I was really excited about gifting him Eargo as it didn’t feel like a standard appliance or a backhanded gift that would show we were aware those nods weren’t of comprehension, and that he was really struggling with his hearing. It felt like I was gifting him a cool new, novelty product. I knew he wouldn’t be resistant to trying Eargo, and that it wouldn’t make him feel like he had some sort of deficiency.
Dad was totally blown away by the fact that his cool new gadget was a hearing aid, and that he couldn’t see the hearing aids when they were in the ear. To him, Eargo felt like a really cool gift that literally and figuratively amplified his own natural abilities to hear – like a superhero.
At the wedding, Eargo helped Dad feel like the life of the party. His new hearing aids gave him a ton of confidence among a crowd of younger wedding guests – wearing his new hearing aids helped him feel like he was part of the younger crowd. When listening to wedding speeches on the beach he was able to not miss a beat, even when competing with not only other conversations, but the sounds of Hawaiian wind and waves. It’s exciting for us as a family to see Dad be engaged, present and in the mix, not only at large events like Lauren’s wedding, but every day – he now carries Eargo around in his pocket!
Our legal team made us throw this one in: Please note at this time Eargo cannot guarantee a trip to Hawaii with purchase of our hearing aids.
